Welcome to the Fernan-Vaz Gorilla Project

The FVGP welcomed the Year of the Gorilla (YoG 2009) with a local education campaign that targeted around 475 children of the Fernan-Vaz lagoon area. Midway through the year, we translocated 6 young gorilla orphans to an area where they can peacefully pursue their forest rehabilitation.  At this same time, a research project on the impact of crop raiding by wildife on the livelihood of the local people of the Fernan-Vaz lagoon area was encouraged as part of being one of FVGP's objectives.  Finally, In December 2009, through a joint venture with local children of the Fernan-Vaz lagoon area, we traveled to Paris as part of our strategy to raise global awareness on the importance of great-ape conservation.  The Year of Biodiversity (2010) promises other great endeavors.  Please join us, as active players, in our mission to prevent the imminent decimation of great-apes worldwide.

We are proud to share our latest news with you...

Located in the west central African country of Gabon, where 13 National Parks were created in 2002, the Fernan-Vaz Gorilla Project can be found on Evengué -Ezango Island just north of Loango National Park.

This website hopes to raise global awareness on the bush meat and illegal pet trades which are contributing factors to the imminent decimation of western lowland gorillas.

On this website, you can read about gorillas, both wild and those rescued from the illegal bush meat and pet trades.  Some of them have found safety and dignity within our Sanctuary, whereas others may one day return back into the wild.  Hope ultimately lies within our ability to help reach out to as many people as we can to promote the protection and conservation of our remaining wild gorilla populations and tropical ecosystems, respectively
